Self-Referee with Brand Ambassador Support
Summary:
- Self-Referee: Players make their own calls. A Brand Ambassador is available for rule clarification.
- Game Setup: Two players from each team must start the game.
- Match Format: Best of 5 games within 60 minutes (check league details for specific timing).
- Roster: Teams with more than two players can rotate on a serve or alternate games. All rostered players in attendance must play at least once within the designated time frame.
- Brand Ambassador: Present to clarify rules but not act as a referee.
Game and Match Rules:
60-Minute Matches:
- A game is completed when one team reaches 11 points and leads by at least two points.
- If tied at 10-10, play continues until one team wins by two points, with a cap at 15 (e.g., at 14-14, the next point wins).
- Players switch sides after each game.
Serving Rules:
- Only one serve attempt per player unless it is a "let" serve (serve hits the net but lands in the correct service court, then replayed).
- The score must be announced before serving (server’s score first).
- Each team member serves once before switching the serve to the other team.
- The right-side player serves first.
- After scoring, the server switches sides.
Faults in Serving:
- Serving into an incorrect area.
- Hitting the ball out of bounds (sidelines and baseline are in play).
- Volleying before the ball has bounced once on each side.
- Hitting the ball into the net or touching the net with the paddle/body.
- Hitting the ball before it bounces in the non-volley zone.
- Stepping into the non-volley zone while volleying.
- Stepping on/over the non-volley zone line during a follow-through.
- Missing the ball when attempting to hit it.
Basic Rules (USA Pickleball):
- Format: Played as doubles (two players per team).
- Court Dimensions: 44’ long x 20’ wide (same for singles and doubles).
The Serve:
- The server's arm must move in an upward arc.
- Paddle contact must be below waist level.
- The paddle head must not be above the wrist at contact.
- Drop Serve: Allowed, where above rules do not apply.
- The server must have at least one foot behind the baseline.
- Serve is diagonal and must land within the opposite court.
Serving Sequence:
- Both players serve until a fault is committed.
- First serve of each side-out starts from the right/even court.
- If a point is scored, the server moves to the left/odd court.
- This pattern continues until a fault occurs.
- In singles, the server serves from the right/even court when their score is even and from the left/odd court when it is odd.
Scoring:
- Only the serving team can score points.
- 60-Minute Matches: A game ends at 11 points with a two-point lead (cap at 15 points).
Two-Bounce Rule:
- The receiving team must let the serve bounce before returning it.
- The serving team must also let the return bounce before playing it.
- After both bounces occur, either team can volley or play off a bounce.
Non-Volley Zone (The Kitchen):
- Extends 7 feet from both sides of the net.
- Volleying within the non-volley zone is prohibited.
- A player stepping into the zone while volleying or touching it with any part of their body or equipment is a fault.
- Entry into the non-volley zone is allowed when not volleying.
Line Calls:
- Any ball touching a line is "in," except for a serve touching the non-volley zone line, which is a fault.
Faults:
- Any rule violation stopping play.
- A receiving team fault results in a point for the serving team.
- A serving team fault results in loss of serve or side-out.
Forfeits:
- 10-minute grace period before a game is considered a forfeit.
- Two forfeits in a season may result in removal from the schedule without a refund.
